From the Alaskan Tundra to the Tip of Africa – FieldSpec Users Share Their Stories

We recently asked our FieldSpec Advisor newsletter readers to share with us their most memorable and interesting adventures while conducting research with our FieldSpec instruments. And we received some amazing feedback!
Select quotes from a few of our reader’s adventures include:
-
“Many days went perfectly smoothly and, once I got used to the terrain, it wasn’t so bad. And, of course, I had an awesome time, I worked with some amazing scientists and had an experience few people in the world will ever have. The views were incredible, and Alaska is breathtaking (even the part with no trees!). Also, I think the Field Spec 3 backpack is an absolutely incredible piece of equipment. Well worth its weight in gold!!!” – Shannan Sweet on her summer in the Toolik Lake Field Station North of the Brooks Range in Alaska
-
“Our field visit on the abandoned asbestos mine was nerve wracking to say the least as we had to watch our backs for lions - Our Fieldspec 3 provided perfect spectra and a subsequent hyperspectral airborne overflight allowed us to identify endmembers for asbestos related minerals thereby demonstrating our ability to map this mineral.” Alex Fortescue on his research at an abandoned asbestos mine in Mpumalanga province, South Africa
We will announce the winner for the most innovative submission and the winner of a Kindle™ in the next FieldSpec Advisor issue and in a follow-up blog article so stay tuned.
The ASD team is always eager to learn about the research our users have been conducting with ASD instruments so if you’d like to share your adventure story with us, please post a comment on our blog, write on our Facebook wall or send us an email at marketing@asdi.com – we would love to hear from you!
