In her 19 years with Malvern Panalytical she has held various roles, including X-ray diffraction (XRD) application specialist and product manager. She enjoys talking to customers about their research projects and challenges, and is looking forward to contributing more blogs that address customer interests and concerns. Katherine also has written several white papers – read her latest white paper here.

This year will be the 19th Pittcon in a row that I have attended (there should be an award for that, right?). Actually, Malvern Panalytical did receive an award from Pittcon 11 years ago for our then 50th anniversary of attending the conference. If you still have not made it to this annual gathering of the latest in laboratory equipment, educational courses and technical presentations galore, here are some reasons to consider heading to Orlando on February 26 (or Philadelphia in 2019):

1 – You can see the latest in analytical instrumentation, including systems newly launched at Pittcon. This year, the Malvern Panalytical booth #2118 will feature two brand new products on display – the Morphologi 4 automated particle image analysis and Morphologi 4-ID, and Epsilon 4 benchtop XRF system for fast and accurate at-line elemental analysis.

2 – You can test drive many analytical systems – live demonstrations are happening in many exhibit booths as well as the Live demo area of the exhibit floor. In the Malvern Panalytical booth #2118, we will have live demonstrations of the new Morphologi 4 system, Aeris benchtop XRD system, Epsilon 1 XRF system, ASD LabSpec® 4 NIR system, and ASD TerraSpec® Halo NIR system for mineral identification.

3 – You can take a 0.5-2 day course on that analytical technology you’ve been meaning to brush up on. The short courses are inexpensive and participants receive a certificate that you can show back at the office. Malvern Panalytical experts will be delivering short courses on topics ranging from particle size analysis and rheology to gel permeation and size exclusion chromatography. Check out the complete list of our courses here.

4 – You can bring your material challenges and analytical pains to Pittcon. Discuss new methods and capabilities with application and product specialists to solve your issues or shed more light (or X-rays) on your material’s properties. Booth 2118 will have specialists in particle size analysis, rheology, gel permeation chromatography, size and zeta potential analysis of nanoparticles, XRD, XRF, NIR, and sample preparation for XRF, ICP, and AA.

5 – With over 2000 oral presentations and posters on materials and topics including pharma and biopharmaceuticals, polymers, forensics, environmental, food, agriculture, fuels, water treatment, and nanomaterials, to name a few, you are sure to find out about new research on topics you care about. Check out the program here.

6 – You are supposed to eat an apple a day, and Pittcon is known for handing out fresh apples in the exhibit hall.

7 – If you live north of the Mason-Dixon line as I do, you are cold and deficient in vitamin D. A trip to Florida is just what the doctor ordered…

So, if you are someone who identifies, quantifies, analyzes or tests the chemical or biological properties of compounds or molecules, or who manages these laboratory scientists, Pittcon is the place for you. I hope to see you in Orlando!
