We are excited to announce that effective immediately, our new Netherlands-based NIR service center is open for business.
The NIR Community from ASD Inc., a Malvern PANalytical company
Nima Pahlevan, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Massachusetts Boston and one of ASD’s 2011 Alexander Goetz Instrument Support Program recipients, is continuing to make waves in the remote sensing industry.
The FieldSpec 4 spectroradiometer stole the show at day two of X Seminario Minero Internacional. This international mineral exhibition, has gathered mining engineers, metallurgists and geologists from across the globe.
Dr. Greg Asner, Department of Global Ecology, Carnegie Institution for Science, and his Carnegie Airborne Observatory (CAO) team recently returned from a trip to South America where they sought to explore, map and scientifically evaluate ecosystems stretching from lowland Amazonia to treeline in the Andes of Northern Peru. Lasting about two months and covering nearly 130 million acres, the team explored remote forest in the Peruvian Andes and Ecuador-Colombia-Peru borderlands rarely seen by humans.
Reflectance spectroscopy offers a versatile and precise way to extract important information from soils and crops. ASD’s FieldSpec 4 and HandHeld 2 instruments are valuable tools to researchers in the field of precision agriculture.
Researchers already use this method to assess soil fertility and crop nutrients analysis. They are attracted to the portability, non-destructive measurement, and immediate lab-quality results that our spectroradiometers provide.
Add sophisticated calibration modeling by our SummitCAL experts to create a full crop and soils analysis solution.
Soil applications include total carbon levels and carbonate levels. Crop applications include nitrogen status, soil fertility and water status.
Examples of constituents ASD instrumentation can measure:
- Total carbon/Inorganic carbon
- Total nitrogen/Mineralized nitrogen
- Soil organic matter
- Cation-Exchange Capacity (CEC)
Check out our spectroradiometers and related crops and soils applications at the ICPA Conference in Indianapolis, July 15 – 18. ASD’s booth number is 12.

To support expansion efforts, ASD has made three key hires. We proudly announce the addition of George Greenwood, senior market manager of remote sensing, and Casey Pelton and Mark Tuohy as channel development managers. The new team members will serve to meet customer needs in academia, as well as commercial markets in both the remote sensing, industrial and mining markets.
Over the last 22 years, ASD has continued to grow as a company, offering a wide array of instruments. The instruments developed and grew from the early PS II to the sophisticated FieldSpec 4 line of spectroradiometers.
